Program Objectives
The objective of this program is to provide an intensive response to family crisis to ensure the personal safety of children while allowing them to remain within the family home.
Activities
- Intensive family support staff will be available to respond to emergent requests to enter homes and provide support services to families in crisis.
- Services will be flexible and creative in order to meet the varied need of high risk families.
- Services will include a variety of supports including; teaching, monitoring, connection to counseling, conflict resolution, care services and reduction of isolation.
- Intensive Support Workers will participate with the Ministry, Mobile Crisis Services Inc. and the family to develop safety and care plans for the family.
- Intensive Support Workers will develop safety plans with parents with addiction issues that support safety for the children while recognizing the concept of harm reduction.
- Provide transportation to families and children as required to maintain case plan while assisting the family to establish a transportation plan that is reliable after involvement ends.
- Mentor parents and other adult caregivers on healthy parenting and coping skills.
- Involvement with the family will be a period of up to 6 weeks.
- Staff: 1 Program Coordinator and 6 Intensive Family Support Workers
This program also has Elder support for ceremonies and ceremonial supplies – sweetgrass and sage.
Program Outcomes
- Services to families are available on an emergent basis in non-traditional hours.
- Children who assessed as requiring removal from parental home are instead able to safely remain with the support and supervision of the Intensive In Home Support Worker.
- Children remain in their home community and school.
- At risk families have safety plans and are receiving support to follow them.
- Difficult to serve parents are successfully connected to the appropriate community services.
- Provide flexible service support is available including the development and maintenance of safety plans.
- Following these services will allow the children to be safely maintained in their family home.
- Provide Elder Service to families; counseling, ceremonies, talking circles.
